Calories to Lose Weight

In order to lose weight you must be expend more calories than you consume. Although that this idea may sound simple it is not that simple. You see if you cut down too many calories your body goes into starvation mode.

When your body goes into starvation mode it will slow your metabolism. Your body will also store what calories that it is taking in as fat. Not to mention if you are exercising and not eating enough your muscle becomes cannibals and you can actually lose lean muscle. This is exactly the thing that we do not want to happen.

The trick is to be over all calorie deficient, supply your muscles with the proper amount of nutrition and avoid going into starvation mode.

The best way that I have found to do this is using BMR (Basel Metabolic Rate). Using this formula you will be able to find how many calories you expend if you did nothing but rest in bed. Then you use the activity multiplier to find how many calories you expend on a daily basis. Finally you subtract 500 calories from this number to to lose around 1 lb of fat per week.

The if you exercise you can expend more calories and gain lean muscle. Lean muscle expends more calories on a daily basis. This along with exercise should get you to the 2 lbs of fat per month.

If you would like to figure out your BMR visit Calories To Lose Weight. Here they have the formula to figure this out, not to mention that it also has a FREE body fat and BMR calculator that you can download to your PC.

There are other things that you can do to further your progress. This includes diet and exercises. Certain exercises produce better results than other and certain eating patterns also produce better results. Check out the references below for more information.
